The Randi Rhodes Show...
This is perhaps the first of many "corrections" to her errors. I find the show humorous, in that she is so wrong, so often, but depressing, since she rarely will listen to a contradicting, or correcting, view.
It's often not "as simple" as what makes up litium. Sometimes she supports the fiction that the military is doing nothing to provide support for families of reservists and guard members who are deployed. THAT is insidious, because most people think that she "must" know, since she served as an (enlisted) member of the US Air Force during the "dark" Carter years.
Go figure.
Do your homework. Check her out. http://therandirhodesshow.com

We couldn't agree more on the subject of Rhodes...
However, the Editors of The Log Blog wish to take this opportunity to congratulate the Professor on the professional milestone of his retirement... we truly appreciate his service and the benefit of his teaching. We extend our thanks and best wishes to him and his family as they take the next step towards a promising future. Congrats and well done, teacher!

Rhodes is amazing. How wrong she can be is stunning. A simple search of Wikipedia (not withstanding the latest WikiScandals ) show that while "lithium is just carbon and salt" that is because the Lithium is unstable on its own and requires that it be in a salt for it to be ingested:
Lithium salts such as lithium carbonate (Li2CO3), lithium citrate, and lithium orotate are mood stabilizers used in the treatment of bipolar disorder, since unlike most other mood altering drugs, they counteract both mania and depression. Lithium can also be used to augment other antidepressant drugs. Useful amounts of Lithium for this use are only slightly lower than toxic amounts, so the blood levels of Lithium have to be carefully monitored during such a treatment.
